THE WHALERS is a hybrid poetic documentary that explores the personal family history of director Marte Vold’s Norwegian whaling heritage, through a collection of travel letters from her grandfather. The film delves into the post-war travels of her grandfather and his experiences in Europe, Antarctica, and Norway.

Marte Vold is an experienced Norwegian director of photography and documentary director. Marte’s work has been screened in both galleries and film venues and internationally at film festivals around the world.
She co-directed OUT OF NATURE (Toronto and Berlinale), directed TOTEM (screened at several international film festivals, among them New Directors/New Films in NY) and LETTERS (Busan International Film Festival, nominee to a Dragon Award and winner of Jean Rouch International Film Festival Prix du Patrimoine Culturel Immatériel).
