Synopsis

At the beginning of the 21st century, the construction of a Norwegian hydroelectric power plant begins in Guatemala. The local population is severely affected, leading them to kidnap two Norwegian workers to gain negotiation leverage. We follow Elena (19), torn between supporting her mother in the fight against the hydroelectric power plant or being true to herself.

Elena feels that her life and dreams are not as important as her mother’s struggle. In her daily life, she actively fights to help her family, but she does not want to be an activist. Deep down, she dreams of a completely different reality. She wants to study at university, a path no one in her family has taken before. However, if she leaves, who will take care of her mother, the village, and the ongoing fight?
